Incline Village Hazy Days

Lake Tahoe Information No Comments

Incline Village and the entire Lake Tahoe basin has been swamped with the smoke from the numerous fires burning in Northern California and Southern Oregon. For everything that has been happening with the fires, there is not all that much coverage on the national outlets. What makes this situation scary is that on Saturday the 21st, 400 fires were reported. Sunday evening the number stood at 535 fires statewide. On Monday, a extremely rare weather event happened creating “dry lightning”. This storm created between 5000-6000 ground strikes. This means that the lightning struck the ground between 5000 and 6000 times and there was no rainfall to quell small fires. As of Monday night, the report stood at 840 fires, 36 being significant to endangering humans or buildings. I just checked back with the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and they are currently reporting 1,026 fires burning now – in California alone! The weather reports are showing 95 degree+ weather with the chance of more lightning over the next few days.

California Fire ImageIncline Village and Lake Tahoe do not appear to be in any immediate danger at this time, however be vigilant about smoke inhalation. Try and stay indoors and limit physical activities if you have any known previous conditions. (This time of year, this is the last thing we want to be doing!). Either way, I would much rather put up with the smoke and haze than be in the position some other people in California are in. Hopefully they will see some relief shortly. Say a prayer and God Bless everyone that loses everything.
